Random Phone Number Generator
Create US and Canadian phone numbers for testing, demos and sample data. Choose a state, how many you need and a test-safe or realistic format.
Generate Phone Numbers
Every number uses a real area code for the place you choose.
Area Code Lookup Tool
Type a 3-digit area code, a full phone number, or a city or state.
Two kinds of random numbers
- Test-safe (555-01XX): the numbers 555-0100 to 555-0199 are set aside for fictional use in North America. They do not belong to anyone, so they are the right choice for film scripts, books, screenshots, tutorials and public demos.
- Realistic format: a random exchange and line number in a valid layout. These look like everyday numbers, which is useful for testing form validation and databases. Some of them will belong to real people, so never call or text them.
What people use it for
- Testing sign-up forms, CRMs and phone validation code
- Filling design mockups and spreadsheets with sample data
- Writing fiction, scripts and training material
- Teaching how US phone numbers are built
How a US phone number is built
A number has ten digits: a three-digit area code, a three-digit exchange and a four-digit line number. The area code and the exchange cannot start with 0 or 1. This generator picks a real area code for the state or province you choose, so the location shown beside each number is accurate for that area code.
Please use it responsibly
This tool is for testing and sample data. Do not use generated numbers to sign up for services in someone else’s name, to send messages or to make calls. If you need a real number for your business, read our guide to virtual phone numbers.
