561 and 728
Palm Beach County kept a single area code for more than 25 years. When 561 ran low, the state chose an overlay, so nobody had to change an existing number. New lines may now receive 728. Both codes are local to the same cities, and every call needs the area code.
How to Dial a 561 Number
You need the area code for every call, even a local one.
- From the US or Canada: 1 + 561 + the seven-digit number
- From another country: your exit code + 1 + 561 + the seven-digit number
Is a Call From 561 a Scam?
Palm Beach County has a large retired population, and scammers know it. Calls that target older adults are common in and from this area.
Watch for these warning signs:
- Threats of arrest, a lawsuit or a service shut-off unless you pay today
- Offers of a prize, a loan or a job that need a fee first
- Callers who already know part of your details and ask you to “confirm” the rest
- One-ring calls that try to make you call back
Caller ID can be spoofed, so the number on your screen does not prove where a call comes from.
